There are guns and knives everywhere. More violent than the usa.
Whut? You know there's a lot of myth to that. In the UK 'violence' is classified differently and they keep better crime stats than we do.
Honestly, would you rather (a) get into a shoving match or possible fisticuffs outside a pub (b) get shot to death for being in the wrong place at the wrong time? THAT is the difference between the UK and US in terms of crime. Also, in the UK you have to go to specific areas to encounter violence on the streets -- seek it out. Here, damn near anywhere can erupt in violence at any time. Now they do have a problem with youth violence in that clubs and the occasional knife are used to rob people and more rarely beat someone up but I'd take that over a typical American teen.

Just not even close to being true.

Britain has a higher crime rate than any other rich nation except Australia, according to a survey yesterday.
The chances of having your car stolen are greater in England and Wales than anywhere else in the developed world, it said.
quote:
According to the figures released yesterday, 3.6 per cent of the population of England and Wales were victims of violent crime in 1999 - second only to Australia, where the figure was 4.1 per cent.
Scotland had a slightly lower rate of violence, at 3.4 per cent.
In the U.S., only 2 per cent of the population suffered an assault or robbery.

Let's focus on the USA, considering this is where that otherwise innocent teenage boy was shot and killed while unarmed.
