Anybody remember that #1 ranking of about a week.. What was that about 10 years ago??
I remember that. 2002, Alabama was #1 before losing at Wisconsin. I believe there were like 5 straight weeks where there was a different #1 that year. Syracuse ended up winning the national title.

We lost to Utah. We also barely made the tournament that year.
We only got to play one game at home while we were #1 and we beat Xavier.

Oh yeah, that's right it was Utah. Alabama won 17 games that year and got knocked out of the first round by Indiana. Think Alabama was a 10 seed.

Yes but Wimp's troubles off the court killed the fun a long time ago.

Wow, I can't even imagine Alabama being number in in BBall. Must have been amazing.

That team that was ranked number one barely made the dance iirc.

It really wasn't that fun. There was a time in the early 90s when we had almost as many NBA players as anyone.

The "Plaid Palace" was awesome. Center court used to have a plaid design it it. Had the parquet flooring. Those teams were awesome. Bama put some big men in the NBA. McKey, Horry, Ansley, Rogers, McDyess, and so on. Those were good days. My favorite player was James "Hollywood" Robinson. He was in shooting range as soon as he stepped off the bus. Used to blow bubbles with his chewing gum while he dribbled.

Definitely would agree about Hollywood. He had a great spin move layup. My favorite moment was against Arkansas. We were down by one or two and we had the ball. Everyone KNEW he would take the last shot. Arky was all over him and he PASSED. And he passed to a guy (Elliot Washington?) that averaged about 3 pts a game. Somehow it goes in and Bama wins.

That Arkansas game was awesome. 90-89 I believe was the final. We went up and down the court with them. Very "unWimp" like. I think Day for Arky had 30 something points. Then UK kills us the next day for the title.

Buck Johnson and Terry Conner were very good also.

OK, I've seen at least two people mention that Rod Grizzard was one of their favorite players. Just...how? He was a selfish player that took terrible shots his whole career. It's not too hard to score 20+ points in a college game when you shoot it every time you touch it. I couldn't stand watching him play.

That was the main reason I thought Gottfried sucked. We had talent. It was so frustrating to watch us play because we always had good players. He had no idea about how to motivate. He really knew nothing about an offense that could score in the halfcourt or team defense. We couldn't break a press and our team defense was bad too. We won games because we had superior talent. Many of our guys regressed throughout their careers and Grizzard was no exception.
Things are probably worse right now. Grant said he wanted to build a team that was fast-paced, played great full court pressing defense, and that did things the right way. I give him credit for trying to do things the right way. I respect him. The fact of he matter is he hasn't kept up his end of the bargain. He hasn't kept his promises to his recruits. This team does not play the style he wanted to play. We don't have any quality bigs. We play guys that I don't think that could play well for UAH. We don't press with any sort of effectiveness. We struggle breaking a press. We slow it down so it is hard for teams to blow us out. And it's not like the SEC is a bunch of world eaters right now either. Most of the teams pretty much suck.

The other day was the 25 year anniversary of the Whimp alike Nite. I still have my mask.
