Lest say in 2014 the the top two football teams in the country are obviously in the SEC like in 2011. 1. LSU 2. Bama 3. FSU 4. Oklahoma
Will the playoff committee use the 1vs4, 2vs3 format? Or will they play the money card and go for the non inner-conference championship game?
My bet is they will pair the two SEC teams in the first round and go for a money game at the end.

I see it being 4 SEC teams duking it out.

They'll put both SEC teams against each other so that decreases the chance of the conference winning another title.

i say they stick to the regular format and hope that one of the sec teams loses the first round

They won't have a choice about the format. I suppose what you're asking is, if the SEC teams are 1 and 2, whether the committee will blatantly drop the 2nd ranked team to the 4th seed. My guess is that will depend on how obvious it is. If there had been a playoff format in 2011, then dropping Bama to the 4th seed would have been extremely blatant, and the committee might have been wary of doing so simply because it would have looked manipulative. But in other years, numbers 2-4 are generally closer in perceived quality and dropping the 2nd ranked team to 4th seed might not cause as much of a stir, which means the committee will be less circumspect about doing so.
