I've got family in the San Fran bay area. They brag about being able to water ski or snow ski within a 4 hour drive.

We can ski to sea. Our ski area is on an island, but we're surrounded by the inside passage, protected waters of the Pacific. I live on the side of a mountain, and have tidewater 400 yards away.
