so I'm coming at this as a former college athlete. first off not everyone is on a full ride in non football sports. my sport only got 9.9 scholarships to fill a team, women got 14 (thanks title ix.) anywho back in my day bama only served 15-18 meals a week and broke us off a few hundred biweekly to cover the rest, if your scholly covered that. obviously selling books you got for free was a perk. I liked the free Nike shite too.
with that said sports like mine make negative dollars... it's highly unlikely to be kept around if the bill expands. I'd much rather see more people like me get the opportunity to compete and get educated than only a few sports get paid while others get axed. I was blessed enough to end up at a school with big football money, some of the stories from friends at less loved programs had way lower end facilities. I know most of them couldn't afford the influx of additional costs at all. it's entirely not what college athletics are about.
