I think Atlanta had enough notice and is now playing the blame game. Birmingham however, was at the mercy of meteorologist who ultimately are not God and bad miscalculated where the storm would hit.
This situation did make me question whether there is an evacuation plan for the city, state ect because essentially that was what we saw yesterday, a mass evacuation

Also, these people can go to hell. I hate to see people take advantage in situations like this. So everyone be on the look out for scammers and spread the word

^^Knoxville has dealt with all this much better than Atlanta, B'ham, or even Chatt but the reason why is we got hit with the Blizzard of 93 (Storm of the Century). Y'all got some of the '93 Storm too (broke records for your area too) but Knoxville and NE. TN got 3-4 foot and some drifts that were higher. Knoxville area also had no power for several weeks -- some up to 3 weeks or more with no power. For more than a week my hometown was shut down completely. THAT single storm effected Appalachia big time and completely changed everything -- we established EMA plans we never had before that storm.
On top of that we get a lot more snow than y'all do. So snow isn't out of the question just only a few times a year. Our particular area is known for unpredictable weather so we err on the side of caution.
That said, there's no way in hell I'm going to try go down my driveway till this stuff clears - I'm atop a mountain/ridge not a hill.

thats what i took away from it. there seemed to be no plan whatsoever from city, county and law enforcement. no coordination with the schools regarding closures and no general idea how to force the flow of the traffic to prevent people from being stranded. it was fairly disturbing.
ETA: i am speaking strictly to the logistical failures from yesterday, not the weather reporting.
