I can never understand what drives some people with seemingly everything to live for to do this

There are some people who seem to have everything going for them, but underneath that layer lies a person who can be mentally incapacitated where things can go horribly bad in a short time frame.

The reason it doesn't make sense to most people is because to those people the only refuge they feel can alleviate their problems is permanent escape from the life that causes extreme turmoil. They are not in a sensible state of mind and doing nonsensical things.

They may have gone through prior episodes of despair and finally have had enough and choose to take their life. The bad part is so many refuse to seek help because there is such a big stigma associated with mental illness and taking medications for it. So many choose to self treat or feel they are misdiagnosed and some can live functionally that way for their entire life, and others will turn to drugs and alcohol, homelessness, in and out of institutions, crime, prisons, or taking their life.

Many brilliant, intelligent, creative, seemingly normal looking people can be afflicted. It is a sad but real truth in life.

I've lost my brother to it. It's a difficult thing to deal with, both for the person with depression and their loved ones.
