Between Fred Akers and Mack Brown (1984-1997), A&M owned the state and Texas was wandering in the wilderness.

A&M's record vs. Texas during that time: 11-3

While Charlie Strong is a decent coach (on the defensive side), it will take an extremely massive culture change for them to gain any ground on A&M.

Let's look at the A&M commits/signees this year that Texas wanted:

WR: Frank Iheanacho
OL: Zach Ledwik
OL: Tank Davis
OL: Koda Martin
DE: Myles Garrett
DT: Zaycovan Henderson (flipped with one phone call 2 days before he was supposed to enroll there)
DT: DeShawn Washington
LB: Josh Walker
DB: Nick Harvey
DB: Armani Watts

Contrast that with the Texas commits/signees that A&M wanted:

WR: Armanti Foreman
LB: Otaro Alaka (who we might still flip)

Step 1 in Sumlin's plan: Marginalize OU in recruiting (complete in 2013)

Step 2 in Sumlin's plan: Marginalize Texas in recruiting (in progress, likely complete in 2015)

And, to be fair, they only got Foreman because they were willing to offer his brother, and we wouldn't. if we flip Alaka, it's a shut-out.
