I'm not saying that any of the QBs are malcontents, but I've always thought that the backup QB should get meaningful snaps from time to time, and not just mop up duty when we're up 35 late in the game.

Completely agree.
It's the NFL mentality, though.

Yep. I remember being in school in '77 and '78. Jeff Rutledge was the starter, but it always seemed like Steadman Shealy was gonna be in the game the third series of the game come hell or high water, regardless of the score. Drove me crazy in 77 when as a soph he wasn't so good yet. We won the NC in 78. Then in 79, after Rutledge had graduated, we still had a veteran QB coming back...although not a starter...and we went 12-0 and won another NC.

We get a top QB every year. They don't all have to redshirt. There's virtually no risk in running your backup QB out there for one series to start the 2nd quarter against Tennessee when you're up 21-0. I don't want a guy's first meaningful snaps at QB to be at Jordan Hare in a tie game with five minutes left because the starter just went down. It doesn't have to be that way, and IMHO, it should never be that way.
