No. To be good enough to win a national title you need to be ranked in the final two teams before the end of the year. Bama wasn't good enough to beat Auburn, and fell out of the top 2 where they obviously didn't belong in the first place.

No. To be good enough means to be good enough. If several teams have the same amount of losses then it depends on who gets voted into position to play for it like Alabama has the last couple of years. Texas A & M was good enough at the end of 2012 that they could have beaten anybody. Unfortunately for them they lost 2 games earlier and there were teams with 1 loss ahead of them. They were good enough though to win the National Championship game though.
