Why the frick don't we have a playoff again?
I'm looking over the list of College football Champions over all time and its kinda retarded how many national champions there are in some year. Hell, there are even some teams that went undefeated that didn't get selected as National Champion.
FBS Champions
National Titles
pre-1942
All of these Championship seem like straight up BS. After 1890, There seems to be 3 or 4 national champions every year.
1927
Georgia 9–1 George Cecil Woodruff BS, PS
Illinois 7–0–1 Robert Zuppke BR, DiS, HAF, NCF, PD
Notre Dame 7–1–1 Knute Rockne HS
Texas A&M 8–0–1 Dana Bible SR
Yale 7–1 Thomas Jones CFRA
I can't take Alabama's and especially the Ivy League's football titles seriously with crap like that. These titles should just be acknowledged for football History sake not to pimp your National Championship resume.
National Titles
1943-1979
These titles in general can be claimed ,but there are still a lot suspect champions. How is Bama gonna get credit for a national title even though they lost the bowl games? 1964 & 1973
Not to mention, multiple years were non-traditional football powers were completely overlooked. Multiple times Mississippi, Arkansas and Arizona States runs were like completely ignored.
Finally, there are still to many years with multiple champions ,but its not nearly as bad as early football.
National Titles
1980-Now
All these titles see legit with really only question marks surrounding the Rose Bowl. Personally, I think only these titles are truly legit.
Looking at that list just reminded me just how fricking slow college football evolves.#1 team vs #2 team seem like such a hard concept for the longest time.It took a 100+ years of college football to figure that out. .
I wonder how long its gonna take for a legitimate playoff system.
