I don't think it was part of the sport's broadcast, just a commercial for a Children's Hospital owned and operated by a religious organization.

Yes.

And the message was something like "donate and save the children" or some such, and "we celebrate the birth of Jesus."

If that offends you, don' send them any money. Their advertising dollars were wasted on YOU.
