Because it was.
It's still probably the best conference in the nation, but I don't think you can honestly say it was as strong as ever with LSU, UF, UT, and UGA all having 3+ losses.

So because other, "lesser" SEC teams like Vanderbilt, Missouri, ole miss, Auburn, south Carolina, etc. beat those teams you listed, the conference was "down"?

Agreed and it wasn't just the SEC that was down this year. All of college football was, tbh.
