The SEC stuff and the "feel" for Loftin is why he will always be loved by Aggies. He was truly an Ag through and through and you could tell it was his dream job.

A&M has had a lot of other success during his tenure in terms of growth and research dollars but I don't know how much of that was really him. A&M has a badass Vice Chancellor that is an expert at winning grants and Sharp is a pure politician who knows how to get things done. Perry as Governor for 13 years and appointing every member of the BoR doesn't hurt politically either. That also has caused a lot of ruffled feathers as well, Perry and Sharp both have strong opinions on higher education that aren't popular with some.

Don't really know how well liked Loftin was with the Faculty or how he was perceived by academics elsewhere. He's not an Ivy League/Cal Berkeley type at all. So there is a chance he was a "loved by the masses, meh by the academics" guy but I don't really know.

He's a lot of fun though.

Mizzou Network youtube channel has now uploaded video of Chancellor Loftin's introduction at ceremony at Mizzou, black & gold bowtie and all.

Our athletic director Mike Alden who is interviewed in that piece is from Texas as well, interesting how he phrased it that Mizzou "recruited" Loftin to come to our school. I'd say the Big 12 and Texas ties probably had a whole lot to do with making this happen for both parties.
