I'll preface this post by saying that most of my Auburn knowledge is based on what I observed from the 2010 model. In the 2 games I've seen so far this year, the offense is largely the same but with some differences to adjust for the changes in personnel.

I think a shootout favors us just by the nature of Auburn's offense. I actually read extensively about Malzahn's offense a few years ago between exams when i had taken a shitload of adderall. It's really a beautiful system because of how god damned simple it is.

I mean, look at this:

This hand sweep play was Cam's bread and butter and I'm sure Marshall does the same thing. In this particular play, it would be on Michael Sam to blow it up, which is pretty good for us, actually. It is absolutely imperative for Sam and Ealy to generate a good push on the snap so our LBs can seal the edge. I suspect Auburn fans will be hearing the names Golden and Wilson very often on Saturday.

Auburn runs 3 variants of the option: The zone read, the speed option, and the power. I do not think the power option will be successful. Runs inside the tackles and up the middle simply have not produced results against the Tigers. See: Mike Davis (yes, we lost the game, but frustrated Davis nearly to tears). I am most concerned with the speed option variant. Our defensive line is VERY aggressive, which is why Spurrier burned our arse with screen passes so badly in the second half. Frankly, I'm worried about getting torched on something like this:

Mason could certainly beat us badly heading outside on something like this. These plays are not difficult to understand. They are easy to see and scout. But when players hit their assignments, they are hard as hell to stop.
