Here's another way to look at it:

In December and January, since 2009 Alabama is undefeated.

That's wins over 13-1 Florida, 13-1 Texas, 11-2 Mich State, 13-1 LSU, 13-1 Notre Dame, and 12-2 UGA (of which most of the losses all came at the hands of Alabama - only two came to teams not named Alabama).

That's 4 teams that ONLY lost to Alabama.

Like I said - any set of numbers can be manipulated to say what you damn well please.

Great point. Absolutely great point. Yet none of it addresses that all great coaches, even Saban, need luck. Gumps just won 3 out of 4 and they whole heartedly believed they were staring at the greatest machine ever built at the college level. If they simply realized they were lucky as shite to be in position to win the last 2, they wouldn't be so devastated. They don't want to contribute any component of their success to lady luck, and that sets false standard.

I love how people try to claim Saban isn't an elite game day coach every time he loses a game. We saw this after the A&M game last year as well as the LSU game the year before that. I don't buy this argument at all. You don't go 72-8 over six seasons on talent alone. You don't average 12 wins a season on talent alone. You don't win 4 national championships on talent alone. He loses one football game to a Top 5 team and almost everyone acts like it was the third or fourth loss of the year, conveniently forgetting he is 11-1 and #4 in the country.

Saban can't win every single ball game. It's just not possible. He's won over 85% of the games he's coached at Alabama and that is a remarkable statistic. He's won 90% of them since 2008. People say he has a tougher time beating teams with similar talent. Well shite yeah he does. Every coach does. Can you name me a team since 1995 Nebraska that blew out every single team it faced? Bear Bryant is considered the greatest of the great game day coaches and he even had close games against almost every Top 5 team he faced.

When the talent level is closer the games are going to be closer more often than not. Anyone who holds this against Saban is an idiot and has no idea what they are talking about.
