Figured we could all give our thoughts on the season and our programs future in this thread

I'll say all and all considering how difficult the schedule turned out to be we did about as good as we were suppose to this year, actually better when you consider the South Carolina win

Would've been awesome to have beaten Vandy and made it to a bowl game but alas it wasn't meant to be but I think we have the right coach to bring us back to conference contenders and he is bringin in an excellent recruiting class

As far as the QB situation goes I'm not all that impressed with Dobbs this year, maybe he will improve significantly next year but I see him as more of a Barry Brunetti type than a starting QB for us. Here's hoping ferguson is a good bit better (by all accounts he is)

If you or someone else would have told me after the Austin Peay game that we would be grateful for Justin Worley by the end of this season, I would have laughed until I either puked or shite.

Yea I was thinking about that last night after I posted, would we have been better off to play Worley in the Vandy game? Was he even healthy enough to play?

Dobbs was our 4th string QB...seriously guys, it will be Worley or Ferguson next year with Peterman transferring most likely. The only reason Butch didn't put Ferguson in was because he broke a bone in practice.

We will be much better next year with the talent we have coming in. Upgrades in speed on defense and playmakers at WR and RB.

Remember, Mizzou loses everyone, Georgia loses Murray, Florida is a dumpster fire. Our competition may be taking a hit next year and that will help us for sure.

New blood bringing in a lot of talent. Especially if Malone commits to you dewdz soon.

Unlike everyone else, Tennessee's season played out as predicted. But with Butch Jones, there should be reason for excitement.

Hutson Mason is a pretty good quarterback so far.

And we return everyone else, pretty much.

Barring injury, Dawgs will improve.

Gaining speed on defense will be a HUGE difference maker for us

Never said he wasn't, but I doubt he's as good as Murray.

He's not but hopefully having Gurley for a whole season will make a difference.

Mauk is a pretty strong QB for Mizzou...they lose talent in other places, but they should be very good at QB.

Thank God Florida didn't get rid of Muschamp...

My thoughts, if Butch doesn't change up his defensive staff now, that leaves him probably doing it going into year 3. Which I think would limit his ceiling and make it much tougher to keep his job.

I know that's looking too far ahead, but year 2 will suck. Year 3 will be do or die based on the suckitude of years 1 and 2. He needs to change up his staff because he's not a good enough technical coach to survive on recruiting alone. Of course, that's based on my opinion that the defensive staff is bad, not just based on this year's results, but history as well.

Season could have been better.. if not for a fumble against uga and a challenge overturned against vandy.. we would be at 7-5 right now heading to a bowl.. but we didnt!

so here we are, with a great class comming in, and a coach that wants to win bad. Alot to look forward to. While we have got to find stability at qb for things to get better. Im not sure worley is the answer, or ferguson, or dobbs.. We will see. I think it would be HUGE for this team to return tiny and aj. If that happens, with the class we have comming in. We could be looking at 8-9 wins next year.

I called 6-6 in the pre-season when Auburn and Mizzou were perceived to be dumpster fires. Too bad they turned out to be top 5 teams in November.

It could have been worse. If UT lost to South Carolina like we were supposed to, we'd be looking at a 4-8 season.

If UT won the toss up game vs Vandy and made it to a bowl game, I'd call it a moderately successful season. Even at 5-7 I feel like Butch has survived the toughest schedule in history. 2013 = not too bad

I said the same and would've been thrilled to get to 6 wins

I also called 6-6 and I'm not too disappointed. The Vandy game still pisses me off a little.

To me, there are a few areas of concern. One being the offense being way too vanilla and predictable. I'm hoping that's due to unfamiliarity. The defense wasn't terrible but they sure as shite didn't get better as the season progressed. Now I know there isn't a ton of talent, but how do you keep making the same mistakes?

It just seemed like the team didn't get better towards the tail end of the season, it would've been really nice to see a much stronger finish.

Uhhhhhhhhh.....the defense actually played pretty well considering the offense collapsed after Worley went down. Hard to win a game when you can't score.

Ok, I understand what you're saying and the offense was awful, but I get tired of watching players who can't take correct angles, tackle fundamentally, continue to lose contain on the edge, safeties get beat over the top, etc. if you're fine with that, then cool.

And tbh, the offense couldn't move the ball effectively through the air all season, that didn't change much when Worley went out.

What's interesting is the play calling towards the end of the Georgia game was excellent IMO, not at all predictable. I wonder what was different between that game and the rest?

Worley going down certainly hurt the play calling and I'm assuming that's bc of unfamiliarity/trust.

Play calling in the USC game wasn't bad either IMO

I certainly agree that the play calling was excellent in both of those games. I'm guessing it had something to do with not trusting a true freshman that could be mistake prone.

I'm sure it will be better next year along with the defense. I don't want it to seem that I was bashing the staff and players, I just hope a better product is out on the field next year and beyond. I'd say it will with talent upgrades and the kids getting used to the system.

Hell, I just want to see Tennessee win again and see disciplined football on the field.
