I have been against a playoff my whole life. Im relatively old so I have debated it for 20 years in bars well before it was even close to reality. I said it wold ruin college football. Well not ruin. Make much worse.

Well you've been making a bad argument for 20 years.

quote:

My argument is strong but long so I will spare you.

The length of this post determined that was a lie.

quote:

But I will say that most people say - "Its the only sport with no playoff"

And for a while their were no championship games. The same people were talking about the SEC Championship Game the way you are now.

quote:

I say - YES!!! and it is the BEST SPORT OF THEM ALL. This should be a hint.

It's the best sport of them all in spite of that. Correlation is not causation.

quote:

So - I figure Mike Slive has an Ace up his sleave but I'm not seeing this one. Hopefully there are some guys - maybe you don't post much with some info.

What are you saying? That the REC/Birmingham Offices have a thinktank that constantly lurk the Rant?

quote:

What the hell is the deal here. We are heading straight into something that will harm the SEC.

No we aren't.

quote:

They are rarely going to put 2 SEC schools like we thought.

So what?

quote:

That is BS.

No it isn't.

quote:

They are going to take the ND, Baylor, Oregon (deserves it), Fla. St. (deserves it THIS YEAR).

Good. Part of your argument about the beauty of college football's regular season should make you happy with this. IF you lose a game that eliminates you from Atlanta, you're shite out of luck.

quote:

But in future it will be same thing as always. These teams with no conference - maybe 1 big game like the UCLA game this year they hyped as the big win for Oregon.

Just because the SEC logo is on our jersey, it doesn't mean others can't play good football. You're delusional to think otherwise. Florida State has outrecruited every SEC the last 5 years outside of Bama. Conference gauntlet or not, they schedule one of the two most successful SEC programs anyway.

quote:

Stanford's ranking is ABSURD.

Although in your insane stream of consciousness, when you add CAPS to something, you aren't really making your point any stronger. You're simplifying a straw man argument. So what if Stanford is ranked too high? There is increasing parity, and they still have lots of talent, a good system, and have won a lot of games recently.

quote:

Bottom line. The 4 will be Big 12 winner who 6 teams in SEC would Pound, tOSU who SEC would pound, and SEC and either ACC or Pac 12.

So what? If the SEC flavor of the week that comes out victorious in Atlanta beats them, how is that any different than what happens now without a playoff? Oklahoma, Florida State, tu, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oregon... these are the teams the SEC has played in the BCS and walked away victorious from, right? It'e the exact same opponent wise in what you currently think is the perfect system. Your narrative contradicts itself. If the SEC would "pound" each of these opponents in one game, why not two?

quote:

UT if Bama or LSU or Fla or whoever is our best team has 1 loss or god forbid 2 - we have problems.

No. We don't. The playoff has money at its root, and the SEC is a cash cow. It will have the same access to a natty relative to the other conferences is does now, and that's worked out perfectly fine.

quote:

Here is where I am going with this.

Dear Lord, how are you now just getting to your point, you've already framed and reframed the same flawed premise twice.

quote:

The NEW PLAYOFF will be HUGE.

Correct.

quote:

Media, Twitter, TV, Fan Fare, HYPE

It is usually hyped. The least national interest came for LSU/Bama round 2. The more national players, the greatest all these things will be.

quote:

If you are not in the 4 you are shite.

Cool?

quote:

So it will empower the shite teams and conferences by exposure.

If it empowers them, all it will do is incite more local interest. It isn't going to make a local Houston kid care more about Minnesota or Washington State any more than they currently do. College football and passion is driven by winners, which the SEC will still be with the same, if not more frequency, and local cultures.

quote:

Any system where 5 SEC teams would be favored over 2 of the teams is crap.

I don't know what you're saying, but that's already the case. Notre Dame was favored over 13 different SEC teams last year.

quote:

The committee is crap.

Cool I guess? If it is too much of a frick up they can fix it, but a champion will still be crowned, people will still say they were champs, and they will just want more next year.

quote:

Oliver Luck hiding out as West Virginia's AD and moved them to Big 12 is a Texas Law Grad and will be the Texas AD.

This turned out to be false.

quote:

The panel will kill the SEC because they need more money from the rest of the Nation because numbers are down.

Stupid. The SEC fans matter as much, if not more, than every where else.

quote:

I think Slive knows this.

I think Slive pushed for a playoff before the SEC had this streak, and didn't care if the SEC got multiple teams in or not. He simply knows our product is better, and that can be proven with one team.

quote:

I do not like this shite.

Cool.

quote:

I hate the playoff because it kills the Bowls.

Now the stream of consciousness has shifted. What Bowls does it kill exactly? The Meineke Car Care Bowl? The Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl? As it is, people just watch football at that point in the season, and there is nothing on the line. When it comes to the major "access bowls" it makes them more relative for "momentum" in to next year because instead of the Fiesta/Orange being some spare rent-bowl, it at least returns to the previous prestige of being relevant as a possible semi-final. And the Sugar Bowl will now gain the consistency of the Big 12/SEC matchup and will be Rose Bowl esque in relevance instead of Florida fans barely showing up against Louisville.

quote:

That is No. 2. If you are not in the 4 and some jake leg team IS, how fired up are you to take a 10-1 LSU or GA team to the Chick fil - a

The exact same as Florida was to take on Louisville.

quote:

Final four: Bama, Stanford, tOSU and Baylor

Again, so what? If the SEC team is the best, it will win, just like it is now.

quote:

That shite is coming.

Good. At least now it is less likely and almost impossible for a one loss SEC Champ or even an undefeated SEC Champ to be frozen out.

quote:

What will the SEC teams that are awsome do when left out.

Do exactly what they do now.

quote:

Any bowl would feel like NIT - except that you would be favored.

How is that any different than now?

quote:

It will ruin the bowl system and harm college football.

This is just so stupid.

quote:

That is why I also say the SEC Champ is the Natty Champ - especially starting next year - that should be how we market.

What does this even mean? "Market" it. If the SEC Champ beats teams, it will be crowned the CFP Champ, and we won't have to put up billboards or pass out fliers.
