Am I the only one that believes strongly that she is going to win us a national championship in the very near future?

Her recruiting is phenomenal. She is loyal as they come having turned-down many other offers. This next class she is putting together, especially if she lands the two 5 star girls out of Charlotte and Columbia, might very well be ranked the #1 class in the country.

This woman is special. Only woman to ever have Nike name a line of shoes after her. Basketball Hall of Fame member as an active coach. Tremendously driven. A solid addition to the community.

I'm beginning to love this woman.

Eta:

David Cloninger þ@DCTheState - Late women's basketball news -- Guard Doniyah Cliney (Newark, N.J.) has committed to Dawn Staley and South Carolina for next season.

Cliney is from the same high school as Ebony Wilson (senior two years ago). She's a 6-0 guard that can do everything.

It brings the recruiting class to three, with Kaydra Duckett and Bianca Cuevas. The Gamecocks are looking to sign six for next year.

Jatarie White and Shakayla Thomas are visiting this weekend. And there will be a spot open for any high recruits around town in the spring.

No.

Staley has been a phenomenal hire, and I do expect USC to compete for a national championship in the very near future. Now, I know that it will take several years of consistent excellence to get a solid fanbase to show up, but I'd like to think that the fans will show Staley's club plenty of love and support this winter.

Right now, I don't know, but I also don't follow the women's BB team that closely. I have seen on other sites where she's recruited well over the years and the team is getting better each year, so hopefully she one day does.

Good for her and good for our school to have someone as high a caliber as her to lead the lady Gamecocks.

I don't believe strongly that she'll win one here. Do I believe she can? Absolutely. I just think its too hard if you aren't Stanford, UConn, Baylor, or ND. Still not sure how Tennessee will do without Pat.

I have been steadily amazed by the work that Coach Staley has been doing with the program...

We already have 4* Welsh for 2 more years. Ebiam, Davis, Roy, and Montout were not nationally elite but are all battlers and hustlers and leave everything on the court in games. The kind of role players every program needs.

Then we have the 2012 class that was a great class in itself: 3 highly ranked 4* prospects in Kadijah Sessions, Tiffany Mitchell, and Asia Dozier - adding them to Welch and the others IMO already lays the foundation for the next 2-3 seasons to start competing for SEC titles.

Highly rated 6-4 C Alaina Coates (4* and 28th in 2013 per HoopGurlz100): adds height/size to 6-4 Ibiam and 6-3 Montout and gives the Lady Gamecocks what they sorely missed in the past 2 seasons, at least...

And now the 2014 class of 5*'s Duckett and Cuevas, as well as Cliney who is a 4* prospect by several rating services. That's depth of talent that USC hasn't had for a long, long time in the program...

If Coach Staley can pull at least one of either White or Thomas and add them to what she already has, then this class will definitely be a foundation for unprecedented things.

And the biggest prize is still out there in overall #1 A'ja Wilson, who's going to wait through the early signing period and OV to USC in the spring. That's who Cloninger was slyly referring to in his last tweet...

I am a big fan of Dawn, but she also has some very good support in the staff around her both on basketball side and operations side. The big issue will be the lack of love she gets outside the SEC. ESPN is not been real supportive of the SEC when it comes to women's basketball especially now that Pat is out at Tennessee.

They have really been pushing Duke and Notre Dame in addition to the normal slobbering of Connecticut. Unlike the men, the media really just focuses on a few teams and promotes them 24 / 7 / 365. Last season they did not broadcast the Cocks vs Cardinal game an it was a great game with two top schools. It was a real shame because it was a much better game than the crappy game they actually did broadcast.

The style Dawn plays is tenacious defense and that does not always get the love it deserves either. Some may say I homer for the SEC women but I really do believe the conference is probably the strongest top to bottom in the country and if you can finish in the Top 6 you are a top team in the nation. The problem is somebody has to win and somebody has to lose in the east. Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, Georgia, and Vanderbilt will make the east a slugfest this season. Here is the preseason ranking :

Order of Finish
1. Tennessee (10) - 192
2. Kentucky (5) - 185
3. LSU - 156
4. Texas A&M - 144
5. Vanderbilt - 134
6. Georgia - 132
7. South Carolina - 131
8. Auburn - 84
9. Missouri - 74
10. Florida - 67
11. Mississippi State - 66
12. Arkansas - 57
13. Ole Miss - 29
14. Alabama - 18

The west will be tougher as State hired a top assistant from a top A&M program and Ole Miss hired the top assistant from the UK program.

Last year Duke played a very weak schedule but this year they play Alabama and Vanderbilt at home and Kentucky in Rupp. Word is they are going to try and set an attendance record in Rupp so it could be a very hostile environment for the Blue Devils. It would be very good for the SEC schools if Duke loses some games in the non conference. If Vanderbilt can drop them it would help all the SEC schools in the polls. Here is the first ESPN poll and UT and UK were the only ones to make the Top 10.

1 Connecticut (31) 799
2 Duke 735
3 Stanford 714
4 Tennessee (1) 663
5 Louisville 631
6 Maryland 630
7 Notre Dame 624
8 Kentucky 621
9 California 490
10 Baylor 407
11 North Carolina 387
12 Nebraska 381
13 Texas A&M 368
14 Oklahoma 354
15 Penn State 313
16 Dayton 307
17 LSU 276
18 Michigan State 185
19 Colorado 172
20 Iowa State 163
21 South Carolina 158
22 Georgia 152
23 Purdue 129
24 Oklahoma State 127
25 UCLA 114
Others receiving votes: Vanderbilt 99, Gonzaga 68, DePaul 54, West Virginia 53, South Florida 37, Georgia Tech 34, Kansas State 32, Green Bay 18, Florida State 18, Marist 17, Rutgers 11, Creighton 10, Saint Mary's 8, Syracuse 8, Toledo 6, Middle Tennessee 6, San Diego 4, Quinnipiac 4, Iowa 4, Delaware 2, Minnesota 2, Pacific 1, Florida 1, Brigham Young 1, Southern Methodist 1, St. John's 1

Much appreciated.

Jatarie White, the No. 7 national recruit and No. 1 player at her position, has committed to Dawn Staley and South Carolina.

David Cloninger ?@DCTheState 2h

Obviously a huge day for Dawn Staley's program. White gives her a Top-10 recruit and puts her on the inside track to a Top-10 class.

David Cloninger ?@DCTheState 2h

White is expected to make it official on Friday at her school. USC waiting on Shakayla Thomas to decide on Thursday.

wow, a top 10 player and #1 at her position, that's huge. I know it's NCAAWBB, but I'm really impressed with the job Dawn is doing.

Awesome! Just awesome!

Guys, I was there for the early Pam Parsons days at SC ... our fans used to pack The Frank for women's basketball. I hope we can get back to doing that.

The answer to that is the same for all sports, just win, that's what it takes.

True

But wonder who will win the attendance figures battle this year in basketball ... the men's team or the ladies?

If Staley's team is as good as it appears it might be, she might be the bigger draw this season.

Then again, I expect Frank Martin to take it personally and see to it that he courts a competitive team this year.

I'll be happy if the Men's BB team is 4-5 games above .500. If we are winning along those lines, the Men's BB will have better attendance regardless of what the Women's BB does.

Here is a link to the ESPN Top 100 class of 2014 ... we're looking really good so far. #1 is still out there and she is a hometown girl.

https://espn.go.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/rankings/_/class/2014

So far three in the top 50 (all three are 5 stars), one in the top ten with a chance to add another in the #1 player in the country. That would give us four outta the top 50, all four with 5 stars - that would be a strong class.

They say Uconn has the edge right now but it would be great if she at least stayed in the SEC. I am tired of ESPN using the home office in Bristol to recruit the kids that used to play in the SEC. How they never get sanctioned by the NCAA is beyond me but I guess ESPN gets to do what they want.

On a related note, the following games will not be on ESPN during the months of November and December :

#3 Tennessee vs #5 Stanford
#7 Kentucky vs #4 Louisville / #7 Kentucky vs #9 Baylor / #7 Kentucky vs #2 Duke
#12 Texas A&M @ #15 Penn State
#17 South Carolina vs #14 North Carolina
#25 Vanderbilt @ #2 Duke / #25 Vanderbilt vs #21 Dayton

Instead we will get Connecticut playing (6) games on ESPN during November and December. Pat was right to call out ESPN and now that she is gone we see even less SEC coverage for women's basketball.

And if there is one classless POS coach in any sport that I would love to choke the crap out of it is Geno Auriemma. But the guy wins.

Without ESPN behind Uconn, probably not as much as he does. When you have ESPN recruiting for you it helps greatly. Wooden won at UCLA, but take away Papa Sam and probably not as much.

Dawn was hoping for that girl who was ranked overall at #12, but she went to an unranked FSU. Aja is still in play, but I don' think USC leads. She mentioned recently that she doesn't like going to football games for recruiting trips and that she doesn't like small crowds at women's BBall games. USC avg'd just under 4K attendees a game last year, while Tenn had over 11K.
