I'm aware, but just the original tune was in response to A&Ms. The lyrics were added later by a band director. UTs true rival is OU and they didn't play their seasons to beat A&M when the game was still intact.

Texas created their "Hook'em" hand signal in response to "Gig'em"

Texas' Fight song "Texas Fight" was based off of "Farmer's Fight" and the line "Goodbye to A&M" is in response to "Goodbye to Texas University" in the Aggie War Hymn.

Texas' Hex Rally was and still is a pathetic response to Bonfire.

Texas' original nickname was "Varsity" (which is why our War Hymn mentions Varsity) but they later changed it to "Longhorns" which was the name of our Annual.

Texas' mascot "Bevo" was taken from our branding their new Longhorn nutless bovine and branding "13-0" on the side of it the last time they stopped playing us and they made that into a "BEVO" which was the name of a Near Beer at the time.

OTOH, Texas plays OU in Dallas every year and it has traditionally been a good game. Oh, and they say they hate people from Oklahoma. That's about it.

I remember a few years ago someone took a screenshot from Shaggy or some other Texas site and during OU week there were still twice as many threads about A&M than OU. The similar equivalent would be to say that Bama's "real rival" is Tennessee and not Auburn.

As to the OP, A&M isn't "little brother" to Texas in much of anything anymore. Not in age. Not in size. The academics are a wash with each being strong in different areas and both AAU schools. A&M is more powerful politically than Texas. They have us in football history and likely always will due to the post WWII era but other than that not much. We even fired a coach the night he beat Texas for the 2nd consecutive time and this was between the NC appearances for Texas when they were still a real power.
