After we took the Laurie's Daughter's/Corporate Sports name off the Mizzou Arena, is there anything in the agreement that didn't allow us to sell the name of the arena off to someone else for more money?

I personally hate the whole corporate naming of sports venues thing, but after the butthurt of the Stewart/donors thing wore off why didn't we either name Mizzou Arena after Norm in addition to the floor or sell it out to the highest bidder for some much needed cash?

Mizzou Arena is a fairly generic name, and once the donors name was removed it seems like a pretty obvious chance to make an extra couple bucks that could go directly in to the athletic department budget assuming it wasn't named after Norm.

Do the Lauries still hold the rights due to the donation, or is it just a respect thing for their donation?

For the record: I, unlike many, understand the Paige Sports was the name of the company and wasn't really naming the arena after Paige.

I think it's likely out of respect for the healthy donation they made for that building and the healthy financial support they continue to provide.

If I'm remembering correctly, they were part of the group that wanted Norm out too, weren't they? Thar probably also answers my question about naming it after Norm when Paige Sports' name was off the building.

Yes, Bill Laurie was a big proponent of "convincing" Norm to retire, and hiring Quin. I don't think there was any love lost between Norm and Bill. From what I heard, at any rate.

Well time heals all wounds. Sending the Linkster to Norm was probably a good move at the time, nobody expected the Quin experiment to turn out the way it did. It's still pretty awesome to have the Mizzou Arena instead of Hearnes, even here three coaches later.

That contingent doesn't have nearly the influence with the Athletic Department that they did pre-Quin/Plaige, but the Lauries/Kroenkes still give big. Also, I think the Lauries/Kroenkes were involved in coming up with the "new" name, Mizzou Arena, after the Plaige scandal broke. They did spend 25 mil on the thing, after all, abortive head coach decision and embarrassing plagiarism scandal or not.
