The debt to GDP ratio has been going down since the post-2008 spike caused by the recession. Further, the growth of federal spending has slowed since Obama took office. It exploded under Bush, especially in his last 2 years in office.

Ok.

FWIW, I don't get folks blaming Bush for things. His policies were doubled down on by Obama, who you love. Bush, I think meant well, but I disagreed with a lot of his policies. He took many progressive positions and Gov't did expand under him, much of it bad. Like the Patriot Act.

To say the debt is simply because of all the "entitlement" programs is comically short sighted. It's caused by a lot of factors, including paying for 2 wars and the Bush tax cuts, which yes Obama extended. It's a bipartisan problem, if you even want to call it a problem, but the Tea Party is too busy demonizing the less fortunate on welfare to see the forest for the trees.

It's more than doubled. Under Obama. While he had complete control of the House and the Senate.

I didn't say all debt, but it's by far the largest portion of it. What I said is that the decay of this country is because of so many entitlement programs and generations of people living on them as a lifestyle, instead of temporary help. Take the EBT card failure last week and the massive theft because of it. Hell, we advertise in Mexico, telling them how to come up here to sign up for free programs.

I don't love Obama. I think he's been a pretty terrible President, only slightly better than Bush who was the worst President we've ever had. Spare me the he meant well BS. He didn't mean well, except for his wealthy cronies.

My point with those facts was to point out the hypocrisy and ignorance of the Tea Partiers. They are quick to invoke the memory of Reagan, who TRIPLED the debt during his eight years in office. They are quick to throw out the amount of the debt, without pointing out the debt to GDP ratio.

We've been coming out of the worst recession since the Great Depression. It's common sense that "entitlement" spending would increase. And it wasn't massive theft. Walmart opened the doors and abandoned the $50 limit. That's on Walmart.

I've worked in welfare programs. The vast majority of those receiving benefits are truly in need of assistance. I have no problem with our government helping them out.
