Took a look at the stats. LB's were leading tacklers by significant margin against OM. First game I believe this has happened. It also seemed like we were getting better DL penetration as a unit then we have in the past. Just need to get the QB down when we reach him.

Glad to see Raven get some snaps to knock off the rust. I didn't get the sense that the staff really wanted to play him this game but had no choice once Everett went down.

Matthews is making way too many mistakes for a player with his experience level. I would not be surprised to see Everett and Raven as the starting safeties if Everett can go next week.

Matthews is the worst player in the 2 deep, and I'm counting Bertolet in that. Its not that his athleticism isn't there (it mostly isn't, however), its that his field awareness is non-existant on about 50% of his snaps. All of the deep plays OM pulled off (that I remember seeing)were because HE blew an assignment very badly.

I am pretty sure the 1st long touchdown and the TD on the missed sack of Wallace were on Matthews. I could not believe he left his receiver on that play. Had he stayed on his man, the play probably would have resulted in a short scramble pick up for Wallace or an interception if he tried to force a throw.

I am not sure that the wheel route TD is all on Matthews. Seemed to be a very good play call for OM versus our defensive call. Never saw a good replay to tell if Matthews was late shifting over to the RB as he went in motion. I don't want to make excuses for him but he had an awful lot of ground to cover to get on the RB.

Matthews was the goat on 3 of the passing touchdowns. Raven on the 4th.

On the first, he drifted too far in the middle instead of deep and got caught by the middle receiver.

On the second, Raven was out of place. Everett would have pick 6'ed that throw by Brunetti.

On the third, Matthews got baited by the PA fake.

On the fourth...Matthews tried to clean up the sack and lost his man.

He didn't go full "Honeycutt" though, as Wallace tried to go his way on the last drive and almost got it picked off.

I'd have to see the replay again but pretty sure we were in man coverage and Matthews was safety help. One of the LBs (Claiborne I think) flat blew his assignment on that play.

Matthews hasn't played great but sometimes when it looks like a safety screwed up it's because someone else did so badly that the safety is the only guy left
