Are we doomed?

Are we doomed to be a middle tier SEC team at best from now on? Is there a real chance to become elite again?
A lot of factors are against us: geography, demographics, economy, lack of more billionare boosters, other teams getting better, TV favoring other markets, and some others that I can't think of right now.
What do you think?

This class will end up top 5 in the SEC. If we close top 5 class in the conference year in and year out we'll always compete for conference titles.

I agree about recruiting, but it is going to be tough to keep high rated classes without results on the field.
Maybe Butch can do miracles, we will see.

Lol no.
Despite the state of our program the last few years, we are still and always will be Tennessee.
That will always be a selling point for great recruits for this class and for the future.

Short answer: no.
The program has a long way to go. I watched the game on my phone and didn't have great service, but it's obvious the roster sucks. On top of that, the offense runs the same 4 plays over and over and the defense can't make adjustments on the fly.
The talent and coaching need to get better.

No, but it's past embarrassing

It won't last forever. Notre Dame had a pretty abysmal stretch, UGA was mediocre until Richt got there, LSU and Bama were bad until Saban arrived. Its been a shitty road and may continue for a awhile but it'll get better

So, when I hear about Tennessee's fortunes, one of the things others use to explain it is a lack of instate talent to compete, and that UT has to go well outside of Tennessee to find talent to compete in the SEC.
I know UK has to do this, we barely have 5 D-1 Talent each year, but I kind of assumed Tennessee had a better talent base to choose from. What's the truth?
My example is Randall Cobb, but he wasn't even a 3 * guy as I recall and Fulmer didn't want him.

Tennessee has always had to go out of state for a lot of their talent. Neyland used to ride the train cross-country to scout and recruit kids.

What InVol said, but the last 2-3 in state classes have been blowing up. The 2015 class already has double digit 4* a year and a half out
