I'll agree that this uniform change has been a little weird for me, but I'm in my 30s, so I've got a few decades of seeing the other uniforms.
That being said, when the last generation of uniforms came out there were a little "futuristic" with the black/gold torso stripes and the half stripes on the sleeves. Now, they're considered normal.
I'd prefer they stuck with the old gold, but Mizzou's colors are pretty difficult to wear out and about and still look nice as it is. I'm not much for black shirts, but a dijon brown/gold one isn't too much better. At least with a standard "gold"/yellow most people can match if they're wearing Mizzou t shirts or polos.
Being a traditionalist is good, of all my favorite teams Mizzou is the only one that's changed uniforms drastically/logos in my lifetime. I think that's exciting, but it takes a little getting used to. That doesn't make it bad.
That being said, Oval Tigerhead Guy has been around for ten years and is probably sticking around for another twenty years at least, so it anything...there's the tradition. I'd be willing to bet if they put the tigerhead on the helmets back when they first announced/revealed the new logo there wouldn't be much of an issue with the change today. Everyone almost universally loved the new tigerhead logo and if he went the helmets then people would have loved the new helmets too.
The uniforms themselves aren't bad, I just think there's too much change going on at once. If anything, I wish they'd have gone more crazy with the uniforms. I like the whole uniform kit, I just don't dig the helmets.
Plus, it's hard to talk too much about tradition when Mizzou just bolted its conference of over a century to go to the SEC.
