Throwing the ball on 1st down??

Where can I find stats on how often we throw it on 1st down?
I understand we are a run first team, but we've gotta make f$u and some of these SEC teams respect the pass just a little bit or it's gonna be tough sledding from here on out.
Is 5'8" Patton out best option to stretch the field? Will any SEC team fear our vertical game even a little this year? If Tenn scores 17 points, can we still win?
I know this sounds really pessimistic, but this game is pretty big. I might cry if UF loses 2 in a row and the Bucs are already 0-2.

Between the 20's we move it pretty well. Our rz offense leaves alot to be desired though. I agree we need to mix UT up a little more on 1st down.

It seems like RZ offense has been a huge letdown for us for years now.....even dating back to our last 2 championship teams. I remember some people calling for Brantley to get RZ snaps over Tebow in 08/09
I'd love to find our offensive RZ stats from the last decade or so as well.

Ok....forward pass. Misunderstood by many. Throwing on first down can result in an incompletion and then you have handicapped your qb somewhat...if the yds gained on second down running the ball are less than seven yds...you now face third and long...got it? Of course...many fans would rather see passes on first, second and third downs...which is stupid of course.
By running the ball on first down and second down..you have a great chance of facing third and three or less...making the defense defend run/pass.
We also have another play to utilize...the fly sweep or sideline screens to loosen up defenses and make them spread out. Defenses have put 9 men near the line and hence our inside run game has suffered...we do need rbs to break tackles too. You cannot abandon inside running no matter what or you let the defense get you in predictable playcalling.
Our problem in passing game is TE related and it would be nice to have TE make LBs move out of the middle and open up run game inside too. Our coaching staff is pretty smart and they know the limitations we have...I trust em.

You need to pass to set up the run at this point. Well we do anyways. Teams load the box on first down assuming we will run to the heavy side and a lot of times we do. Passing may result in 2nd and ten but it may also back the defense off some, helping later in the game.

You don't want your backup qb in predictable downs my friends....look at UK last night ...we are in FG range and we were in a 3rd and 11 yds to go....we run the ball....WHY??? Because it was the smart thing to do....why risk a pick or sack or fumble by qb Murphy getting hit during pass rush? You just don't risk it...Murphy ran 5 yds and we kick easy FG.
Again...a good passing down is the first down play from outside your own 35 yd line once in a while...or when you have 2nd and 3-2 yds to go inside their side of the 50. Incomplete means you run on third down and possibly 4th down. Third down passing is necessary when you have third and six or more...and with Murphy it is better to run the ball when its third and ten and not let defenses pick him off.

So basically.....run it 90 percent of the time to make sure you may gain a little positive yards each play and almost never pass unless you absolutely have too?
Really sounds like that is what you are saying. Run, run, and pass only after the run has absolutely failed. Even then, run again.
