The defense looked lost in 2011? Weren't they a top 10 D that year? I was under the assumption that everyone expected our defense to give up 35+ to Clemson. We definitely won't win big games playing that kind of D, but to expect them to hold Clemson to anything less might have been a little unrealistic.

They sure looked lost against the good teams that year.

We should never expect to give up 5 touch downs to anyone. If that's a reasonable expectation then we've got problems. I doubt Bama expects to spot 5 TDs to any of their opponents. Just my $.02.

Agree. And my guess is if we had had our defense from last season, we would have won the game by a couple of TD's. You just don't lose that many NFL caliber starters without some drop-off.

Richt needs to learn to reload like Saban does instead of constantly rebuilding. People can say what they want about our talent and underachievement but the truth is the #12 ranked recruiting class in 2010 and 2012 doesn't cut it when your rivals consistently have top 5 classes. Regardless, we always seem to be depleted in some aspect of the team whether be the secondary, OL, whatever. One things for sure, we won't be winning any NC's with our current OL. We are obviously lacking talent there and it should come as no surprise considering our ongoing misses in top talent in the trenches. Meanwhile, Alabama has a road grading crew every season.
