Do Tennessee Fans Ever See a Potential Super Rivalry with Mizzou?

Proximity favors a future rivalry.
Some analysts say Missouri football is a sleeping giant that hasn't reached her potential. Tennessee is already a giant historically.
I see Mizzou/Tennessee as a Mizzou/Nebraska type rivalry. Very cordial but serious.
Mizzou/Arkansas on the other hand has the strong potential to become extremely nasty like Mizzou/Kansas.
I prefer the more cordial rivalries.

no offense at all.. i am not trolling either, this is my personal opinion.. absolutely not. I still cant see mizzu as an SEC team much less a rivalry.

I think that'll change with time...give it 5 years.

The only way I see it happening is if both our teams become good enough to fight for the top of the SEC east every year. Similar to what happened in the early 90's between us and Florida. Otherwise, it will just be another SEC divisional game.
Let's cheer for a future of epic battles between our teams!

I like this suggestion!!

I have hopes of a good-natured rivalry with Tennessee. I think our states have a lot in common, and absolutely love eastern Tennessee. Plus, there are some Vols in my family, and I've always been a closet Vols fan.

Semo,
You have people in your family from every SEC state.
Just messin with ya.

Surely you don't mean geographical proximity.

Lets look at what makes a rivalry
#1 in state or border war
East TN and Central MO would suggest no
#2 comparable programs
UT football > MU football
UT basketball ~ MU basketball : potential
UT baseball ~ MU baseball : possible potential but edge to Vols
UT W basketball > MU W basketball
UT softball ~ MU softball : possible potentianl but not clear yet
#3 balance
If 1 side has most wins and the other side does not, then not rival
If on side wins 1/3 and the other side wins 2/3 probably not
If on side wins 1/2 and the other side wins 1/2 probably so
#4 travel
Does visiting team travel in numbers to matter and is this mutual
#5 close games
Do game engage with exciting scores and storylines or are they blowouts
Based on last years OT game this shows potential
#6 history
The more you play the more a rival develops, so far not enough games to determine.

Watson, you power of observation are lacking old chap.
LSU and TAMU had a long history before their first game last year therefore they need no time to grow a rivalry. Mizzou does not have this now so it can take decades for a good one to develop. What you are missing is that in that same time an existing history must fade so such a rivalry as you suggest can take that place. Vols rivalry with Alabama and Vanderbilt have the deepest roots and the Kentucky rivalry crosses the most sports so all 3 of these are already ahead of Mizzou.

The only way I see our schools developing a rivalry within the next few years is if there are more games like the one we had last season. (A 4 OT epic)
