Do any USCe fans think Thompson should be the starter or is Shaw the clear better QB? As an LSU fan I admittedly only watched a handful of USCe games last season, but I do remember being impressed by Thompson in the bowl game. I thought Shaw definitely played well enough for South Carolina to win in Baton Rouge, but he did have a few costly picks and I remember Spurrier being upset with his play after the game. Does Spurrier just like a QB with athleticism like Shaw or his he a better passer as well? Just curious to hear the SC fan base's thoughts

Thompson is a very capable QB, and would lead us to a successful season if he was our full-time starter. However, I feel that Shaw has more experience, and brings more options to the table as far as what he contributes to the offense when he's healthy and on the field.

IMO both QBs have the tendency to hold onto the ball too long on occasion and it gives the opposing defenses chances to sack them or gain TFLs. Thompson has developed the idea that he is the better QB over Shaw in terms of longer passes downfield or arm strength. I have not seen this: Thompson has made a lot of downfield passes for TDs and big gains, and the % of them to all completions stand out more, but Shaw has also made a ton of them as well. Thompson has a few more 40-50-60 yd pass plays than Shaw, but Shaw has a ton more 30-40 yd plays than Thompson. Shaw though is by far the more accurate passer than Thompson thus far (65%+ compared to Dylan's 50%+), so in my mind it all evens out.

IMO, Shaw was poised to have a career season last season but was hampered with various injuries that kept his production down. The biggest question for him coming into 2012 was how consistent he could become as a passer over his 6 or so starts in '11. IMO despite his struggles he proved that he could become that.

Dylan will get plenty of opportunities and possessions, and will be ready to step in should Shaw get injured again. But this team is Connor's to drive....

ConwayGamecock nailed it

I'd add that Thompson hasn't played serious snaps against SEC defenses yet and it looks like both will be on the field at the same time this year. Don't know if it'll be a wildcat type package or what but I'm interested to see how that works out.
