I don't particularly care for him either but I must give credit where credit is due. The Shula years could have been a lot worse if not for the talent that was amassed on defense in the classes of 2001 and 2002.

He could have done more. He never sit well with in-state coaches and spent his time trying to recruit Texas and Oklahoma high schools, from his TCU days. I know things could have been worse if not for guys like Mark Anderson, Freddie Roach, Roman Harper, etc., but his complete lack of effort in trying to sign linemen was always baffling to me.
