IMHO it has a chance to be very good. At first I was a little worried about losing Swearinger and Shaq Wilson. Then I gave it some more thought and realized that Shaw, Quarles, Sutton, Ellington and a few more are just as capable and just as clearly focused.

Then there is Spurrier. He's put together what could probably be qualified as the finest staff we've ever had at SC. Deke Adams is the big question mark but given his past history and what he did with UNC's DLine last season we have to like our chances with him replacing Lawing.

This team is loaded for bear plus there is a very very nice balance of blue chippers and blue collar guys on this team - which gives it a good chance to do some big things. Agreed?

Plus, we appear to have depth everywhere. Talented, fairly experienced depth with the exception of LB where I am hoping the talent overcomes the experience issue at that position.

I think the chemistry looks good. For good chemistry you need an ignition/leadership person(s). On offense we have it. Either QB has shown they can do it and 4 returning on the OL. So the backfield and line have it. With the WR's you have the returning starter for both the basketball and football teams, Ellington. There is a lot of leadership/ignition candidates for the offense.

For the defense I think it's a little more up in the air. Vic and Brison return as starters and Vic has the type of swagger needed. The LB's last year provided a ton of leadership, but they are gone. Clowney could be the greatest of all defensive leaders, but it's to be seen if he will become that.

Who do yall project to be the starting linebackers to replace the ones you lost? Tell me a little about each of them.

Also, tell me a little about your secondary.

The only thing I know about your defense right now is Clowney, Sutton.

And I know all about your offense, which alot of people don't give you credit for, but you could have a Bama class OL this season, and as mentioned, your QB's and Ellington are first class, and although Davis/Wilds have yet to show they are 1st class backs, they might turn out to be, especially if they have a Bama-class OL to open the holes for them. You have a great OL coach as well.

Anyway, tell me about your projected linebackers and secondary guys, if you have the time. Thanks in advance.

To start the season it will be Cooper and Lewis. Both were not on the 2 Deep last year, both are sophomores, and both had decent offer lists out of HS. They are both unproven and we won't know anything until they play some games.

Golightly is slated to start at Spur, he was on the 2 Deep last year, but he might lose that spot to Diggs by the end of the season.

They're awesome. 3 of 4 starters return. Hampton is a great boundary CB. Legree will be a Sr on the other side and has been in the 2 Deep or started the past 2 seasons. Brison Williams is a headhunter and the other returning starter. Stepping into Swearinger's Safety position will be K Marcus, who was on the 2 deep last year, but he might lose that spot to Gurley, if he heals up well. Gurley started for Swearinger when he was suspended last year.

You should get to know DT Kelcy Quarles, too. Prob a second day draft pick and a top 3 DT in the SEC.

Still in flux.

WILL: TJ Holloman, Kelvin Rainey (moved from FB but was a 4* LB recruit), Cedrick Cooper (coming back from ACL but said to be good to go)

MIKE: Kaiwan Lewis (baller)

SPUR: Sharrod Golightly, Marcquis Roberts, Jordan Diggs

Analysis: Diggs is the future at SPUR so I see him getting more and more snaps as season goes on, WILL is tougher to figure... staff loves Cooper but his injury is only a/b 9 mos old, Rainey had a great spring but still a lot to learn. Holloman will take the lead. The consensus is that our LB's are green but much more athletic than those we graduated. There will be growing pains in the passing game, and I'm worried we may not have the size due to our youth to stop good running teams.

Victor Hampton is a shut down corner and can be left on an island. It's criminal how little preseason pub he's getting... he will challenge Purifoy has best CB in the SEC East. Second day draft pick w/ chance to get higher. Jimmy Legree is plenty experienced and decent in coverage... got beat a little last year but made some WOW plays to save himself (one against y'all, I think). Ahmad Christian and JUCO Rico McWilliams round it out. People like McWilliams but I don't know a thing a/b him.

At S, Brison Williams can bring it. TJ Gurley is a future star coming off injury who got early PT last year. Don't know much a/b Kadetrix Marcus. This group is deep, too, w/ Chaz Elder being a guy the coaches like who will play his way into draft consideration down the line.

...that's who I was forgetting. He did really well in the spring game and has the frame to be a great safety. That RS last year was a great idea for him.

Do you know who has the edge at SPUR at the moment?

And is Holloman the guy for right now ahead of Rainey?

Just stars, out of our base 4-2-5:

DE: Chaz Sutton ****
DT: Kelcy Quarles ****
DT: JT Surratt ***
DE: Jadaveon Clowney *****
LB: TJ Holloman ***
LB: Kaiwan Lewis ****
LB: Sharrod Golightly **
CB: Victor Hampton ****
CB: Jimmy Legree ***
S: Brison Williams ***
S: Kadetrix Marcus ***

Many of those 3*'s are low 3*'s... Surratt, Legree, Holloman. Our staff has done an excellent job ID'ing and developing talent.

For Spur it's Golightly out front right now, but I expect Diggs to take over just based on size/speed. Although, I know the told Camara that he was recruited specifically for that position, but I was really thinking we could use Larenz Bryant there. I don't think Mo is fast enough to play that position, and Bryant is.

Cooper, Roberts and Rainey are now competing for playing time at WLB. I don't know who's going to come out on top when the season starts. Cooper has the experience, and is currently slated to start, but he's coming off injury. Roberts also has experience, but didn't play last year. Rainey has the most athletic ability and highest ceiling at this position, but the least experience. I don't think we'll know anything for certain about the LB or Spur 2 deep until after fall camp.

He also showed out like crazy in spring ball. Had like 7 picks or some wild shite. This guy will be a beast eventually. Coaches say he studies the game and formations all the time so I am confident he could step in and definitely make an impact.

Williams was a 4* out of prep per Rivals in the '11 class....

McWilliams came in straight out of high school, so we get him for 4 full years. He wowed the team and coaching staff during fall camp, but then suffered an ACL and was red-shirted. I'm excited to see how he performs this season, as he's had a full year to recover from his injury...
