Miami is a private school which grants them certain loopholes not available to public institutions. Just because they have the same minimum NCAA entrance requirements as most schools doesn't mean the situations are equivalent.
One reason they were so good in the 80s and 90s was because they got a lot of guys in that FSU and Florida couldn't.

Why don;t you contact the AAU and recommend they invite Miami to join.
The best yardstick is that Miami grads have a significantly lower starting salary than Texas A&M grads.
