"It was a lot of fun at Florida with all the SEC championships, and what we did at Duke was a lot of fun. They're all fun, but I don't think I've ever had more fun than these last couple of years," said Spurrier, whose Gamecocks have finished in the top 10 in the final polls each of the past two seasons and will also start the 2013 season ranked in the top 10.

Can't ever get enough positive stuff....

This sounds like someting called "Cognitive Anticipatory Pre-Conditioning". I learned about it in a Psychology class I took at the local community college. Very common among retirees, or people making other drastic life-changes......as a way to rationalize to themselves that it's time for the end of a chapter.
Long story short.........in my professional opinion, the quote you provide is a confession. It's him convincing himself that he's accepted his circumstances.....and that he's already decided to retire at the end of this year.
Sorry cocks.
P.S. Looking forward to watching your meltdown when he makes the announcement come January................

Meh... Spurrier would just make an offhand dare in his retirement presser and we'll continue moving forward with Saban at the helm...
Enjoy being our bitch, pup. It ain't changing any time soon.

I don't claim to know who will come after Spurrier. But, the writing is on the wall..............
Whether he's giving out rings for 11-win seasons, or making speeches trying to convince people that just "having fun" is an accomplishment.......we are dealing with some very odd behavior out of Spurrier right now.
I get it though. It's natural for you to ignore it all. As for me.....I've studied the mind sciences and am able to see what his rationalizations all mean.
Bottome Line: Dude's obviously about to tap out. Call it quits. Game over. He will announce his retirement in January and then move to Myrtle Beach to go full-time Salt Life until he dies.

If he announced it today I wouldn't freak out (though some would, I'm sure). He's done a great job and got us to new heights. If he wants to go play golf then I'm more than happy for him. His lasting legacy here would be giving us a taste of winning. That's not a desire that I see fading if/when he does ride off into the sunset in a golf cart. He taught us what winning should feel like... maybe we taught him how to chill the frick out... fair trade in my book.
The thing is... he still has that taste as well. As long as we're still capable of winning, he'll save his golf game for the off seasons.

Spurrier is the man.
Did y'all know that Spurrier is 15-5 all time as a HC against uga?
He's 4-4 against the pups here at USC, but he has won 3 straight. This year is the tiebreaker.
I heard from a guy who knows a guy who said that Richt and Spurrier have a side bet for this year's game. If Richt wins, Spurrier will stop the all jabs against uga forever. If Spurrier wins, Richt has to accept his son for who he is, promote his son's tour, fashion-line (called DawgBite), and not send him to sissy camp next summer.

Damn............
You people have been pretty cool to me so far (unlike a vocal minority on my own board)............so, instead of smashing this fricking soft-ball you just laid on to the tee OUT OF THE frickING PARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........I'm going to let Deeprig9 do it.
Holy shite.
Deeprig9, The reality of South Carolina football has taught Steve Spurrier to chill out! Did your mind just explode with this confession from one of their own?
Mine too.

The reality of South Carolina, the state and it's people, has mellowed the man. The coach is still fiery as hell on the sidelines, as witnessed on many an ESPN replay.

Meaningless. There is no clause in there that says he can't retire.
Sidenote: How old will Spurrier be in 2017?...........73?
You better hope I am right about his retirement. Otherwise, it could start getting ugly, bo.
Can you imagine a senile Steve Spurrier?
Holy shite..........

I'm not even remotely someone who would sport one of those stickers. I don't like the beach, or watersports, or whatever it's supposed to signify. It's more of a laid back southern hospitality state of mind, than hang loose, brah, hippy dippy faux-coolness. But you continue your campaign... everyone needs a hobby...

He's tapping something....I don't know what it is, but it has a tattoo on the left cheek that says "UGA", and on the right cheek it says, "Property of South Carolina"....

I never took a Psychology class at the local community college. I only threw that in there to make the bullshite gibberish I made up about "Cognitive Anticipatory Pre-Conditioning" sound more believable. My studies of the mind sciences are purely based on personal observation and contemplation. Regardless!..... what I pointed out makes perfect sense.....
Spurrier has come to terms with the end of his career and is simply trying to put a positive spin on the final chapter at South Carolina..... so that he can retire with a clear conscience. If you look closely....Much of his behavior as of late points clearly in this direction. And it's perfectly healthy and natural.
Congratulations on a great career Steve! Enjoy The Salt Life, bo!

The real question is what Spurrier's going to do with all that land he owns in Athens when he does retire? It's shite for value, but the entertainment to be had just strolling down the street and watching the puppies scramble to hide, would keep him entertained much into his dotage...

Mash here for Spurrier's thoughts today about retiring.
Podcast is from today. He said the Pope could lead millions of people at age 77, so he doesn't see why he couldn't lead 11 on the field at age 77. Spurrier will be here FOREVER!
