Egg Bowl returns to Thanksgiving night

quote:

The game will be played at 7:30 p.m. ET, just after you've finished that last piece of turkey.

I love this I miss this game more than anything on thanksgiving. I don't for sure but I'll assume some of y'all come from a similar situation where you have a split family between OM/MSU so if you didn't make it to the game for thanksgiving, you might go over to your grandparents eat lunch then everybody gather around the TV to watch the Rebels vs the Dawgs. This was a great time because even though we were against each other at that moment we still realized why we were together that day. It really made those games special no matter if you were at home or at the game.

Honestly though if y'all have seen the Blind Side and how they described watching the game/thanksgiving in the movie that was really how it was for me most of the time, except for the few times we went down to watch it.

TL;DR = I'm all for it. Bring it on because it's more exposure for us.

I don't like it. I think attendance will suffer.

I'll be living too far away to come all the way back for one day when I have work early the next morning.

My family is not originally from MS so I'm usually out of the state on Turkey day. When the game is on Friday or Saturday I usually can drive back and make it. Now there is no chance I'm missing Thanksgiving w/ the extended family to come back.

It is going to hurt attendance but will probably have more viewers.

no it won't. Plenty of OM and MSU fans in the state to attend. We never had attendance problems before when it was on Thanksgiving.

I've been to more Egg Bowls than not the past 20 years and the only thing that has ever hurt attendance is vast amounts of sucktitude that both teams have experienced.

Attendance will be fine... I already know of a lot of students who will be there, both in-state and out of state students

I'm all for attendance being down in Starkville but I'm just thinking of our student section.

Holiday and potential shitty weather tells me the student section will be lacking.

I just don't see the Vaught being packed. I'd love to be wrong.

Yeah I find it stupid to say it wouldn't hurt a bit because of course it will.

But question would you find a way to go if it was the game that gives us our 10th win or more???

I would, yes. I also live thirty minutes from Oxford and am a bit fanatical with football. I know there is a significant amount of the fan base that will forgo a Thursday night football game (perhaps out of state) on a holiday and spend that night with their family watching it on tv. It's a matter of convenience.

Yes it will. What kind of statement is "Plenty of OM and MSU fans in the state to attend"? It is vague and meaningless. A lot of our students don't come back for the egg bowl as it is because they have to travel far away for thanksgiving, this will cause even more of our students to miss the game. (And their tickets are on their student IDs)

quote:

We never had attendance problems before when it was on Thanksgiving.

We also have a much heavier percentage of OOS students now than we did back then.
