There was a time before Sul Ross took over A&M that they considered closing the Bryan campus and moving the A&M college to Austin.

Could you imagine the combined student size and wealth of a merged UT-Austin/A&M? And if the people of Texas had kept the Medical Branch in Austin as well (rather than Galveston)?
