the SECRant loves to spew State's all-time football record so much. I've posted some of this before- and now HD6 put together some official numbers:
It's always interesting to look back at how different it was back then. 1980-1981 we played 3 games in Starkville total. Played 10 games in Jackson.
We didn't play Alabama in Starkville one time between 1963 and 1985.
Didn't play Auburn in Starkville from 1954 to 1978, and a number of our "home" games were in Birmingham.
LSU didn't play in Starkville from 1923 until 1982! From 1926 until 1974 we played 38 out of 42 games in Baton Rouge, 4 in Jackson.
The shittiness that was our administration hurt us for so damn long- it's absolutely astounding to look at it.

This is why the rant has just become a huge pissing match and Dick measuring contest. Sometimes we intelligently discuss current sec events but that only lasts 4 or 5 posts, then the once promising thread turns into shite. Kind of sad actually. The rant could be great, but collectively we have a ton of 8 year olds who cant maintain a discussion without a u mad, u jelly, how many natties do you have type bullshite. The rants promising growth has been stunted by ignorance.

This is due to lighting and stadium capacity. MSU played a majority of their games in Jackson due to capacity and lighting.
Ole Miss played almost all of their big rival games in Jackson or the Liberty Bowl in Memphis. Hell, Ole Miss' Vaught-Hemingway didn't get lights until 1990.

Thats just a bunch of bullshite...games were played during the day most of the time back then. I know we didnt get lights until the 80's, but if we had been playing home games from the 30's-60's like we should have and getting the revenue from those games- we could have had lighting sooner.
The lack of forethought of having those games at home stunted the growth of Starkville for 50 years

LSU would split the gate recepits with State 50/50 for playing in Baton Rouge. State made more money playing in Baton Rouge. I was at the 1982 game State vs LSU, it was a televised game and Scott Field brought in temporary lighting for the game. It was a pretty big deal b/c LSU was #5 and Dana Moore, a baton rouge native that LSU didn't sign, kicked the game winning FG.

Our Birmingham "home" games was the same deal. We made more money that way.

Like I posted earlier, they made more money playing away from Starkville. Are you forgetting just how poor this university was? That was way before any stupid amount of TV money. We were still selling away "home" games 20 years ago and still move games to Thursdays.

older posters may share more light on this, but the city of Starkville bonded the west side upper to get more home games in Starkville which is sounds crazy when you think about how bad the city and university seem at odds on many issues.

The school is not the only thing that makes money for a ballgame. The whole town of Starkville makes money- hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc.
Dont forget to factor in cost of travel and lodging that ate into that gate money.
What about loss of home field advantage? Which led more losses-which led to less exposure- which led to poorer recruiting- etc...it's an entire process and chain of events.

Yeah, that's why the city issued a capital improvement bond to help pay for the West Side in the late 80's. The same reason College Station is allocating around 70 million to improve infrastructure with Kyle Field renovations.

You don't think they factored in expenses when determining which makes more money?

I mean really, is this some new revelation for you?

This is not just an issue with our University, it's an issue for the entire state. We have been behind and will continue to be behind. What we have to do is look for innovative ways to span the gap between us and our neighboring states. I hear it all the time on a county level,"Well what are the other counties doing, and will this get us up to par with them?" That's a mentality that we need to get rid of state wide.
However, I do believe we have people in positions of power i.e. Mullen, Stricklin in the athletic dept that have those ideas to carry us forward...as for the rest of the state? Who knows.

When looking at the money the city and the University would have made together for home games- and based upon frick up after frick up our school has made in the last 50 years- no. I dont think they looked forward and examined the big picture at all

What's wrong with borrowing a proven, working model as a baseline then customizing it to meet your particular needs? Isn't this done in pretty much everything? People with conflicting interest, laziness, or burned out work ethic is the problem..

You're right with that also..but that will never change in this state, we can't just export all the bums, but we can change attitudes which would fix some of that problem. I was mostly speaking about the mindset of our leaders, who are supposed to be the best of us. But you are right, its self interests and all the things you mentioned that are the big problem.

Ole Hadad was wanting LSU to pay reparations for us playing all those years in BR
it is astounding that our entire AD administration prior to Greg Byrnes wasn't worth one single frick.
