Someone duct taped a Cam Newton Jersey to Bear Bryant's statue, so they bought hundreds of dollars worth of tree poison and drove an hour to Auburn's Campus to destroy one of their most sacred traditions. Alabama fans have acted worse... much worse...
I THINK that Updyke lived closer to there anyway.. and i think Spike 80 DF is cheaper than hundreds, but idk about that for sure.
Updyke is an arse. I have not defended him a bit.
It was pretty disrespectful shinannigans to do the Bryant statue thing.. but I don't care about it and it was a healthy venting of emotions for said individuals, honestly. At least it wasn't worse. Because if it had been worse, it would have been a horrible war back and forth.

Y'all are still talking about this?

I'll dip my toes in the water...
UA football doesn't have anything like the Toomer's oaks, therefore I can not give an opinion on something UA football related.
I can, however, offer something UA related that would make me shed a tear or two...if someone destroyed or desecrated the Little Roundhouse. It being one of the few structures to survive the Civil War makes it special...irreplacable...sure, one could reconstruct it...but it wouldn't be the same. I can't venture a guess as to how long it would take for me to get over that.

Disrespectful? Are you insane? It is just a statue. Does anyone really give two shits about a statue? Does anyone really have any sort of significant memories that could be tarnished? That thing was removed in two seconds. Nothing was permanent. I can't figure how anyone in their right mind would ever view that as disrespectful and is still whining about it on a message board two years later. What if like... it was permanent? What if like for eternity, Bear Bryant's statue was marred with a Cam Newton jersey t-shirt. Every single time you looked at that statue, even in the general vicinity, you had that number 2 in the background. Your family members had taken pictures, and spent many times walking past that statue on gameday, but now, you can't. You can't share in that tradition or that history without the constant reminder of an Auburn fan tarnishing something he or she had nothing to do with. But no... in your brain you are somehow struck with what a jackass disrespectful Auburn fan did, and if it was even a shred worse, Harvey Updyke would have been the worst of their problems? Disrespectful. Please. You gumps are insufferable.
