We've had a pretty good string of big time DEs on the line now for the past five or six years.

Let's assume Clowney is going to have a decent year, that he works hard and stays injury free if we all pray enough for him ... so who will it be after Clowney in your opinion? Who continues the string at DE?

(Sutton is going to be very good this year, and again we may have the best pair of DEs in the country this coming season with Sutton alongside Clowney, but I'm talking the younger guys.)

Darius English?
Gerald Dixon?
Michael Washington?
Mason Harris?
Devin Washington?
Devante Covington?

Hard to say... We will get some sneak peeks at them with our famous rabbit package this coming year.. Sutton made a bunch of noise out of that formation last year.

Im thinking English or Washington. Washington has the opportunity to do big things.

AFter Clowney and Sutton leave next year, there is a big drop off at DE, not b/c the guys behind them are bad, but b/c the level that Clowney and Sutton (moreso Clowney) are at.

These two guys, English and Dixon, will have the best shot at getting PT in '14. HOWEVER, we are on the leader or lead group board for some serious DE recruits this year. A guy like Hand could probably come in and start by the 2nd or 3rd game of the season, if not right away.

I haven't seen anything from Harris to suggest he'd make the 2 Deep, I'm not saying he can't, I just haven't seen it.

Washington and Covington aren't currently at the physical level to start next year, but either or both might make the 2 Deep in '14. By that I think that both will probably RS this year, and shoot for the 2 Deep or better next year. Who knows though, we won't know anything until fall camp.

Back to the DE recruits that could come in and contribute to at least a 2 Deep in '14:
Hand - Probably could start.
Wideman - Listed as a DT, but is quick enough to play DE.
Moten - Already has good size/speed ratio.
Carter - Built like Clowney, could make 2 Deep right away, if not start.
K. Brown - Solid size for a WDE, and should grow with 1 more year.
Jhaustin Thomas - committed to the Cocks before, went JUCO, and has solid size for a SDE.

If I was a DE recruit, I would look at our depth chart and see A LOT of opportunity for early playing time, so I think we are going to have a shot at signing more than 1 great DE in this coming class.

Well stated CockInYourEar, well done. I thought this thread might go weeks before someone hit on exactly that - with regard to prospects out there on our radar.

But let's remember, Clowney did not start by Game 3 his freshman year - hopefully none of the new guys will either. Tis better to baptize them gently than to throw them in the deep water of the SEC and tell them to swim or sink.

Darius English. Coaches love him and were surprised that some of the other big time programs that recruit GA never gave us too much of a run for him. 6A DPOY in GA is nothing to sneeze at.
