I can tell you for a fact that Georgia fans do live for beating Tech. I would rather lose to Florida, Auburn, and South Carolina in the same year than lose to Tech, especially when their football team is competitive, and I'm sure its the same with Florida and FSU. OOC Rivalries are kept because of tradition, and I'm sure you Ags will always have the reputation of "running away from Texas" (even though I personally wouldn't call entering a vastly superior conference running away) until you show the Longhorns that they are your b*itches and you have moved on to bigger and better things.

I'll defer to your opinion.

But there's still a difference between those rivalries and ours with Texas. TAMU's history is fraught with placing Texas on a pedestal. This is because a large part of our identity was tied to trumping them. Between the "t-sip" moniker, the war hymm, and the saw-em off shirts, A&M was more about hating Texas than being A&M.

Well, at least that's the perception.

A&M needs a good, long break from Texas. It needs to learn to stand on its own, independent from its relationship with the longhorns. Once that happens, I have no issue with playing them again.

No doubt the A&M/Texas rivalry is a unique one. So many twists and turns, and the schools and their relationship has changed so much over time. I don't think anyone that is paying attention truly thinks A&M is defined by Texas anymore and haven't been for some time. We still will always hate Texas and revel in their agony and enjoy beating them but that's different.

To me we exorcised the "obsessed with Texas" demon fully when we fired Fran on the night he had just beaten Texas for the 2nd year in a row. If a coach can't save their job by beating your rival 2 years straight that rival no longer defines you.
