At least three news outlets are reporting that South Carolina defensive line coach Brad Lawing has been hired by Florida coach Will Muschamp to fill the opening on the Gators’ coaching staff.

Damn that's going to hurt a lot. I guess they offered him more money if he is just coaching Defensive Ends.

From what I read on cockytalk...
this is outside of just money, although we didn't attempt to match whatever uf offered.
Spurrier has said that he has little patience for coaches looking for lateral moves.
One guy over there said that Lawing got caught in an affair and that his personal life was the reason he left. (RUMOR)
He will have less responsibility and more money, as he's just coaching DE's.
Here's a list I made of possible replacements:
Looks like Lawing is gone. Who's coming to USC next to coach one of the top DL's in the nation?
Here are some nominations
Odell Haggins-FSU. LINK
Ted Gill-Michigan State. LINK
Jim Panagos-Rutgers. LINK
Mike Vrabel- Ohio State LINK
Bert Hill-SMU LINK
I like this one and the guy from Rutgers, b/c they could actually happen.
Randy Hart-Stanford LINK
Deke Adams-UNC LINK
This could happen
Chris Rumph-Bama LINK
Why not?!?! He's a USC alum.
Trooper Taylor-Jobless LINK
But only if this is about recruiting and we'll actually need to find a DL coach.
Rick Kaczenski-Nebraska LINK
Young guy, has recruiting connections in FL. Big 10 experience.
None of these links work, I just copied and pasted from cockytalk.com

Trooper Taylor
We don't have enough "brown bag money" for him to be a good recruiter here. Don't for a second think he's done anything he actually worked for.
This lateral move is weird but whatever. Can anyone really justify what he's done to deserve one? I'm not saying he hasn't done anything. But someone tell me what he has done. Like I can tell you Charlie Strong was the reason Florida's d was so stout and he was the recruiter for Cammy Cam and Tebow.

Lawing was one of the Top DL Coaches in the country. He was a top tier recruiter, check out who he got on his rivals profile. He got a bunch more for the Gamecocks in the 90's and he as the Recruiting Coord for Mich State and UNC, who brought in Top 20 classes all the time. He developed ELITE players like John Abraham Julien Peterson, Melvin Ingram, Norwood, Taylor, Matthews, Clowney.
He's Rabbit package and ability to recruit and develop talent at the DL are a HUGE factor in the success of out team. Replacing him will not be easy, but it's what we are going to have to do.

So if what you say is true and I'm not debating it. Why is Steve Spurrier purposely trying to sink our program? Because that's exactly what he's doing. Why would you not match Florida offer or raise it and give him more responsibility. Seems pretty Facking stupid to me. And I always here Lorenzo Ward get credit for the rabbit package not Lawing

Lawing was running the Rabbit before Ward was here, this is true, he did it with Norwood.
I don't think Spurrier is trying to wreck anything. From what I've read (and these could just be rumors) Lawing got caught in an affair, he wants out of Columbia and he took this opportunity. Spurrier has said in the past he doesn't have any tolerance for coaches looking for lateral moves, so that and possibly knowing that Lawing really just wanted to leave Cola could be the reason no counteroffer was made.
So, maybe no counteroffer was made, b/c he knew Lawing wouldn't even take it.
However, I wish this wasn't happening in the first place. Replacing a guy at Lawing's level is going to get hard/expensive or we could have a drop off in quality/production.

Who runs outta town because they got caught in an affair, lol.

again, I just heard this as a rumor, but think about it. Lawing's been in Columbia and married since the 80's (except for brief stops in Michigan and NC). He's got a lot of family and friends around here, he was even given an award from the Boy Scouts in the past year. Could be tough to face down those people after something like that.
With an at fault divorce (b/c of an affair) the husband is liable for alimony and shite like that. If he moves to florida, then at least she can't take his house (that's one of the neat florida laws in that they don't go after your home in civil suits.) Remember OJ and Wesley Snipes? Their civil cases couldn't touch their homes in FL.
So it makes a little sense, but again, it's just a rumor.

Damn that sucks, but is this an official list of candidates or just speculation?

This is NOT an official list of candidates, but it's a list of guys I would consider.
To come up with it:
I looked at these coach on rivals to see who they had recruited.
I also looked up the NCAA Stat rankings for Rushing Defense, Sacks, etc...to see what level of production they were getting out of their guys.
Then I made this list based on guys I found to be good recruiters/coaches who could do something comparable to what Lawing did. Some of those guys are better recruiters than coaches and vice versa.

If so, this is a decent hire. He can recruit.
Rivals Coaching Profile
Also he can coach
- in charge of a front four that allowed just 112.6 rushing yards per game in 2011, good for second in Conference USA and 22nd in the country. The Golden Eagles ranked second in total defense and defensive end Cordarro Law was named first-team All-CUSA.
-In 2010, the Golden Eagle defensive line continued to improve and show toughness in Adams' second year as they were among the toughest against the run and led CUSA in tackles for loss. Two of Adams' lineman, Anthony Gray and Law, also made up half of the 2010 All-Conference USA second team defensive squad on the line. Adams' also put one other player, John Henderson, on the honorable mention squad.
In his first year as a USM assistant coach, Adams inherited a young, but seasoned and talented group of players that progressively improved as the season continued. The defense finished the year No. 18 nationally in sacks and No. 24 nationally in tackles for loss. The year prior to his arrival, Southern Miss was No. 93 and No. 68, respectively, in those two defensive categories.

Well that just took way to long to take care of. FYI I was being sarcastic with the spurrier wrecking nonsense earlier. I was making the point that it all made no sense and must've been something he was gonna do regardless.
