I guess it depends how strong Sumlin's ties are to his home state on whether that would be strong enough for him to coach at Alabama.
He didn't play there, never coached there. It might not be home to him any longer. If not, what can Bama offer that he doesn't have, or won't have in a few years?
A&M can pay him more that Bama can, more fertile recruiting in Texas, will have a newly-renovated stadium, etc. most importantly he can establish himself as the Man at A&M and not run the risk of having to follow Saban and being compared to the Bear.
