Spurrier was innovative and I think that is what he will always be remembered for. But that only extends as far as the Southeastern Conference is concerned. Bobby Bowden and Jimmy Johnson brought that same type of offensive philosophy to their respective programs several years before Steve Spurrier ever arrived at Florida. Spurrier may have brought offensive innovation to the conference but the same things that won championships in the 70s are still the same things that can win you championships in the 21st Century. Alabama and LSU have proven that.
