One of US News ranking criterias is acceptance rates. Bama's is in the 40% because every redneck with a GED from Alabama applies and they get to pad their numbers with those rejections. Bama's President has pushed had to bring the enrollment to 30K+ that the student body is waterdowned with marginal students.

Is Auburn or Alabama considered a better school? I really have no idea. Both are considered serious backup schools in Texas. At least way back when I was in high school. I never considered applying to either, fwiw. I had a good friend go to Auburn. She was a prude though. I had no use for her.

Both are similar in "prestige."

Go to BAMA if you want to be a lawyer, accountant, etc. BAMA is more focused on Business and Liberal Arts.

Go to Auburn if you want to be an engineer, vet, etc. Auburn is a Science/Tech focused school.
