Everybody keeps talking about the 2nd amendment as if the Constitution has never been amended or changed. Last I checked slavery is illegal and women can vote. Can somebody explain to me how that happened? Take all the time you need.

Well, that Constitution was written because the men in the colonies had the guns and the will to use them to right the wrongs of the king.
Without those guns we would still be speaking British.

Seriously, there can be true debate about placing certain restrictions on certain guns, and certain clip sizes, but I add a sinple caveat.
When the gun banners can guarantee the criminals won't get the banned weapons the law abiding citizens can't, then we can discuss it. Until the law abiding citizens are protected, then no discussion.

So you support us losing some of our freedom? Taking away guns is way diff than slavery and women rights.....the latter two opened up freedom, while taking away guns will reduce our freedom.

I'll happily turn in my guns, but ONLY after all the criminals turn in theirs first.

React much? Where did I say I supported anything? I just posed an observation and question. My point is, don't get too comfy thinking the Constitution protects anything.

Ban all guns. When attacked, suck dick and hope that satisfies before he gets to the women. If he gets past you, tackle, suck dick again and offer booty.

Repeat as necessary.

Good luck.

So that's why Gata says guns are for pussies!

Because he's into killers and their dicks.

I'll just stick to pussy and gums.

HBTD if they confiscated every gun in the private sector do you think that would keep guns out of the hands of criminals and crazy people.
Interested in your honest thoughts.

No. In fact, even if they confiscated EVERY gun in America it wouldn't keep the guns out of criminals hands. Think Cocaine...

My point is: Don't think the Constitution guarantees you ANYTHING!

My position on guns is that I don't own any because I have no need for them, but I support your right to own them.

No offense, SGD. Just a colloquial way of saying, 'good to see ya dawg."

Remember not to get too emotionally invested in this stuff. You're a good person, SGD!

I wonder how old redcoat is? Does he post here now? I recall one of my favorite rambling posts of his included: "tYpiNg gEtTINg slOOoPpy nOW!"

Guns are so ingrained in the American culture that there is no way the Constitution will be changed to remove the 2nd Amendment. Plus, firearms are the only thing that keeps the government from becoming tyrannical.

An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject. A disarmed man is a slave.

Keeping women barefoot and pregnat and away from the mailbox was very much ingrained in American culture as well. Things change...

The difference is the abolition of slavery and granting women the right to vote enhanced personal freedom. Repealing the 2nd amendment would achieve the exact opposite.

No freedom. No bueno.

There's nothing inherently wrong with firearm ownership or being "barefoot and pregnant", and frankly, I think there's some merit to that line of thinking.

Regardless, it is no argument to say that times change. It ignores the premise of why the 2nd Amendment was written. You could just as easily say the religion is an archaic practice which is slowly dying out so we should alter the 1st Amendment to allow for religious expression to be abolished. I'm sure you can think of all sorts of arguments for why religion is bad, anyway.

The premise of the 2nd Amendment is freedom from a tyrannical government. If the Amendment is ever removed (which I don't believe it ever will be), then God help us. We will be powerless to make sure the government continues to work for us, rather than the other way around.

That is easy to see in hindsight Fin. A lot of people at the time lobbied passionately against these changes.

Some would say prayer in school enhances freedom...

In the short term, stricter gun control laws will be passed (you can bet your last dime on that). Within 50 years, I would not be surprised to see the 2nd all but gutted.
