Which have reputations as good recruiters and have SEC ties? Heard apparently has SEC ties but what is his reputation as a recruiter?

SEC recruiting ties, please. I'd love to see one of our former receivers have a shot, but right now we need a top-notch recruiter.

Hit the nail on the head semo. We can't continue to only beat out Kentucky in recruiting and expect to compete for an East championship much less SEC championship.

You know, an interesting thing happened over the weekend in Florida. Jeremy Pruitt, the DB coach at Alabama with recruiting responsibility along the talent-rich I-10 corridor from Pensacola to Jacksonville, was hired as FSU's new DC. They hired a guy with experience, who learned from great coaches and was ready to move up, and who had recruiting ties that they needed. Amazing how they did that, huh?

That's not "what we do".

That's because "what we do" works.

Remember the show Two-A-Days on MTV? He was the D-Coordinator for Hoover. The coach that was always riding Max Lerner's arse.

I never saw this. But he was sure liked in Alabama, and it'll hurt them to lose him and his recruiting ability, especially in that area. I have a good friend who's an Alabama fan, he said Pruitt was their best recruiter. But at the same time, he was ready.

What will we do when GP is gone? He said he wanted to retire at this point in his life. How long does Mike Alden give him before he gets his retirement going?
Need to hire from outside the program. This "In breeding" of promoting from within for every position get's a program stale. Go get another coach with SEC connections. You can have more than one !!!

So apparently Andy Hill said this:
We need for the Quarterback position to shine next year. This doesnt make me feel very comfortable at all.
quote:
Hill has coached quarterbacks for four years during his career, but admits there will be a learning curve. "The footwork and mechanics, just the fundamentals of the position. I've obviously done receivers for 17 years at Missouri and so I know what it takes, I played the position," Hill said. "I'll confer with coach Yost and touch base with him from time to time and there's a lot of good coaches out there that have come through here and guys you respect and guys you try to learn from. I'll find my role, there will be some things I need to learn as we go back into spring football, but hopefully by the time we go into two-a-days, I'm as comfortable coaching quarterbacks as I was receivers."

Ahh, I don't know if it's that much of a cause for concern.
Can look at it a couple ways.
A Qb coach should have played the position, that just seems to be common sense. With a specific skill like that it should be taught be someone that played the position. You wouldn't want a goalie coach who never played goalie. (But remember, Yost never played QB or football for that matter and CD and BG did just fine).
The perspective of the offense one gets from playing and coaching WR can be positive for a QB. Just like a catcher has a good perspective for pitchers. I'd prefer we found a new QB coach and left Hill at WR, but it could work out. These guys know the techniques, they go to these QB camps and have been taught. Hill is really there to make sure they're doing what they're supposed to be doing, be a positive motivator, and help them understand the offense more than a technical teacher.

I can agree with that, but my concern is if we can afford for him to be learning on the fly. I mean we really need either Franklin or Mauk to step up. Preferably in the Spring so that we go into the Fall with a pretty decent idea of what we have at the Quarterback position. We will see what happens though.

What I question is why he said that at all? Talk about to conveying confidence to others, whether the team or fans.

One of the things he will offer most is the connection of QB to Wr. He knows what a receiver expects and wants the QB to do and will help a lot with the communication and reading coverages. He can show a QB what to expect the receiver to do and where he might go on a specific coverage and read. Not all of what Hill will offer will be physical. We have to train these QB's mentally too.

Just please get them to stop standing straight legged and flat footed.

and feeling phantom pressure. The biggest problem with BG and we even see it in Franklin too is bailing when there isnt even pressure. Everytime that happens you eliminate one half of the field.

I can't count the number of times our QB, would feel that phantom pressure and run right into the pass rush instead of stepping up in the pocket. The line had actually done there job on those occasions but the QB gets sacked and makes our already depleted line look worse.
