How does Southern Miss have better TV ratings than OM and State? Something is flawed here

An opportunity for a perfect season like that just draws people in man. No surprise at all.

there are quite a few flaws honestly

1) the averages are only of games televised. An SEC team that would mean all but 1. For USM that may mean 1 game. Many schools averages are inflated by their weaker games not being on tv.

2) Most games are regional, not national. A national rating of 2 <> a regional rating of 2. This is incredibly tricky when you split the nation 3 ways with 3 regional games (like is normally done by ABC). All 3 games end up with high ratings but they do not equal a national broadcast on CBS that might have lower ratings in California dragging down it's rating.

3) Cable. It does not appear that any games on cable that were not broadcast on the ESPN family (not including LHN) are included. That takes all the low rated games out of the averages.

Because of these, the entire exercise is retarded honestly and you can't readily compare anyone except schools in the same conference.

0-12 Southern Miss.

I'm sure it has more to do with the timing and channel of the games more than anything.

CBS and ESPN games reach a national audience and thus have higher ratings built in. ESPN U, ESPN network, FSN, ect do not.
