Did you not read what the SEC wrote? It's in here multiple times. The SEC has said they have to rule if Murray is or isn't defenseless. By the rules defined for CFB, Murray was not a defenseless player. This is the difference between the Elston hit.

A defenseless player is one who is in a position that he cant defend himself. Like a layed out WR.

A player on the defensive side of the ball in inherently not defenseless.
