My mother has Hughes Net out at her rural home. While it is nowhere near as fast as my internet cable, it is much faster then any other option she has.
Yeah...This is the wrong board. Sorry I replied.

I use to have it a long time ago and it is horrible, compared to DSL or Cable. It's fairly good for downloading larger files because you send a request (which takes a long time to reach the sat in space) and your data is sent in burst. But forget about it if you're looking to play online games because the lag times are horrendous. Even surfing the web gives you long lags. Then they meter you down if you use too much (FAP -Fair Access Policy) and it can also get very pricy to use.
You didn't mention how far are you in the country but can you use a cell phone data plan? ATT and TMobil have pretty large coverage areas and you can then tether your connection to a router to be shared among your network. Sprint's network is truly unlimited as well.
If that doesn't work, then I would look into long range wifi. You can set these systems up over many miles. Google long range wifi...

I have Hughes Net. It is a little slower than the AT&T service I used where you insert the antenna into the side of the laptop, but more reliable.

We have Wildblue at our cabin. Works great and the new service is on par with the DSL I have at my house.
