You think people in Jackson don't like to drink?

Did I say that? God you're a twat. I just spent Thanksgiving in Jackson for the 4th year in a row. Its different than Louisiana's drinking culture. Not saying one is better than the other. Half my friend group from college was from Prep/JA/St. Andrews. (I went to Ole Miss)

And whoever is saying Jackson's food is great, 3 restaurants does not make a city have great, unique food.

Soul food is solid lots of places.

Birmingham is nicer in Mountainbrook or whatever, but the city itself can blow me. Cops are Hitler youth.

. There is an element of Jackson that is influenced by New Orleanian, French Quarter style culture

Hmm, where?

quote:

The surrounding state and suburbs I'll grant you are hardcore Bible Belt, but Jackson has a certain unique culture that could be tapped into.

Then why hasn't it been tapped into?

All I'm saying is its traditional Southern culture in a large, shitty city without the draw of a small town like Oxford. It has completely lost its best residents to surrounding areas as well.

And I'd like to add again that think Baton Rouge is shitty, just not as epicly shitty as Jackson.

I grew up in South Jackson. Lived there my entire life. Attended Millsaps College. I now live in Madison. I know a little bit about it. If your friends went to JA/Prep/St. Andrews then they most likely came from families with money who lived in NE Jackson/Madison. You're hardly getting a full sample of what I'm talking about with them.

Look I know Jackson is a shite hole. I got the frick out. But if there had been a large flagship university there for the last 50 years you don't think it might have turned out just a tad bit differently? Ok. Agree to disagree.
