I literally tried 2 or 3 times in the 2000's to be an Ole Miss fan (well, both a State and Ole Miss fan). After all, I do have a U of M degree. I even wrote a long "Can't we have a kinder, gentler rivalry" Jerry Maguire-like post on Gene's Page and the OM Spirit board. Made "Post of the Month" on whatever paper magazine that network was publishing at the time.
It just didn't take. I couldn't stay a fan of both.
One year around 2000 when my son was young, he decided to be an OM fan. He had these socks from soccer and he went around with one long red sock and one long blue sock, knowing it was bugging me. I remember he got as far as the November game with UGA, and Ole Miss had a lead at halftime, but then Georgia came back hard, my son pulled off the socks, and he has been a State fan ever since.

also guilty of a University of MS Medical Center Degree, B U T, I got my MSU degree first and there is nothing like your first love. just couldn't do it. I can't turn my back on the heritage that made me and molded me. Don't like cocaine, lose sorority girls or keeping up appearences. I am me and I am happy that I am not them. But I don't hate them because my workplace is literally split down the middle with people from both schools. Hell, most of our cardiology group did their undergrad at State and are still the biggest State supporters in Jxn, as well as our two neurologists.
